Here in the West, we most often associate “Yoga” with physical postures (asana), or “exercise”. All physical Yoga practices are a form of Hatha Yoga

 

Hatha Yoga (Ha=sun Tha=moon) is part of

Patanjali’s Eight-Fold Path:

 

Yamas (5 Abstinences)
Niyamas (5 Observances)
Asana (Control of the physical body)
Pranayama (Control of the breath)
Pratyahara (Control of the senses)
Dharana (Control of the mind)
Dhyana (Meditation)
Samadhi (Illumination, Nirvana, etc)
